Sections

Research Articles

A research article generally identifies a research problem or gap in the literature and addresses it. It should engage with relevant theories and provide a methodologically rigorous and empirically novel contribution to international relations and adjacent disciplines. Typically, research articles are between 7,000 and 11,000 words (including endnotes and bibliography).

Discussion Articles

Discussion articles are shorter commentaries of up to 7,000 words that aim to stimulate discussion and inspire debates in the theory and practice of international relations. They should propose a theoretical or empirical argument relevant to contemporary IR, but their shape and form is open and fluid and we encourage innovation and originality. Occasionally, Discussion articles are organized into Forums dedicated to particular topic. Forums are usually solicited by the editors.

Book Reviews

A book review should have an essayist style, framing the book in a broader scholarly discussion, and critically engaging with it. No particular structure is enforced, but the review should briefly introduce the author's position in the academic or intellectual field, state the book's thesis or objectives, and implicitly refer to its structure. A book review should be no less than 1,500 words and no more than 2,500 words. Book reviews are not peer-reviewed.
